Dear Arnold...

You came to this country to show off ornanamental muscles. Style over substance, form over function. Aesthetics over athletics.

Like the cuckoo among nobler, more honest birds, you deceived your way into place. You hooked yourself into the glam slam no-work no-talent ironic celebrity and milked and bilked millions to make your own millions.

Like the cuckoo, you did no real work yourself—you tricked others into building your future for you. And counting on the baser instincts of the mob mentality, you took your recognizability and co-opted yourself an executive position. Still on no-talent. Still with no-work. Still by subverting someone else's machinery.

You, the man who got so much on so little, you who came to this country as an alien but were welcome and were lavished with abundance, see fit to pass the buck, pass the responsibility of fairness, of balance, of equality, back off to the mob of people out there who stab and swipe at fear with their torches and their pitchforks.

But then again, you haven't vetoed such profoundly, humanly important legislation yet, so you may yet do the right thing. Such an in-kind act on your part may open up a bright world for yourself and the rest of us.

Arnold's children are not ugly. What a hateful thing to say about children.
I voted against SSM and continue to believe it is wrong. Your mad rantings only proves my beliefs to be right.
I do not hate gays, I just don't think they should marry.
Sincerely,
Patty

You don't hate gays, you're just repulsed by them, right?

No single person's rantings *prove* a damn thing.

If they did, you would prove to be a contradictory cow.

But good thing anecdotes aren't proof.

As far as I am concerned, Arnold is trash--bodybuilding trash. Apparently, his previous steroid problems demented his brain to pea-size proportions. Other parts of his body may have huge proportions, but his brain is not one of them.

Isn't it ironic that in the homoerotic world of body-building, Arnold is quite the homophobe. That is a shocker! Apparently, he thinks his mega-millions is the direct result of straight, multi-orgasmic women buying bodybuilding magazines, and watching plotless Conan movies. Sure!!!!

Gay men have padded his bank accounts, and then he turns his back on them. Arnold is only interested in what is good for Arnold, and no one else. He just recently signed a multi-million dollar deal with a bodybuilding publisher, but then withdrew when the deal looked a little shady. Like--big time shady. Surprise! Suprise!

Most homophobes have homosexual desires, and I would imagine that is the case with, Arnold. Arnold is a genius at self-promotion, but nothing else.

Arnold and the Bush's are great in the self-promotion game. Their entire lives revolve around: the art of the deal.

Arnold referred to the democratic legislators as you-know-what. Well, Arnold, I've seen pictures of your children, and let's just say it's good you're rich because they are going to need lots, and lots, and lots of plastic surgery. They are ugly.

Obviously, steroid abuse does a number in the testicle department. Qaulity sperm you ain't got. Millions you got, quality sperm you ain't got. Pardon the pun, but Maria was NUTS, NUTS, NUTS, NUTS, NUTS, NUTS to marry you.

To all bodybuilders out there abusing steroids, look at Arnold's ugly children. Do you want ugly children? Look at Arnold's demented brain. Yes, Arnold may be close to a billionaire, but think of the pain he must have when he looks across the table at his unattractive, ugly children.

Do you think Arnold will be a second-term governor? Not on your life. Jesse Ventura: Where are you? Let's hope dear old Arnold enjoys counting his money in retirement, lifting weights in his retirement, and writing checks to plastic surgeons in his retirement.

Come to Canada!

:)

Jeff, I think there was litle doubt what dear Arnold would do if the California legislature deemed equal justice a worthy ideal for all its tax-paying citizens.

"HAAASTTTA LAAVISSTA." Does anyone else have trouble typing words with a German/Austrian accent? I sure do.

Progressive Societal change is a slow process. It's even slower when knuckle-heads like Bush, and Arnold are in power.

Tina, I sure wish I could move to Canada. I've been talking to quite a few Canadians this past month in Vancouver B. C., and they are WARM and cordial people. The climate may be cold, but they are warm people.

Here in the United States the climate is warm, but tooooo many people--especially self-serving politicans, are "COLD" to equal justice for all its citizens.

Canadians: YOU ARE A RAY OF SUNSHINE AND A COUNTRY OF WARMTH, PASSION, AND TOLERANCE.

Why is it that in most colder regions of the world, liberalism prevails? Look at Canada and look at Scandinavia. Tolerance prevails. Yes, Russia is the one lone exception.

Ryan

It's interesting to note that Patty calls "Bama" home. Bama just happens to be one of the most homophobic states in the country.

At least to me, "Sweet Home Alabama" ain't so sweet. Let's see, Fannie Flag is from Alabama, and she's a real sweet lesbian.

I suppose "BAMABUBBA'S" have different standards of beauty. I suppose, too, that that's not quite so surprising considering "BAMABUBBA'S march to a different tune. Is "A Boy Named Sue" the official state song in Alabama? Hardly!!!

Just realize, sweet darlin', that the universe is a quite diverse place. Diversity is the name of the game on planet Earth. There's ugly people, beautiful people, fat people, thin people, white people, black people, religious people, non-religious people, heterosexual people, homosexual people, homophobic people, and-- yes even: GAY HOMOPHOBIC PEOPLE. Gay homophobic people are most definitely hard to fathom, but it's true. Luckily, they are somewhat few in number but almost all of them are rabid, right-wing Republicans. Yuck!!!!!

"SWEET HOME WASHINGTON/"SWEET HOME AUSTIN"/ "SWEET HOME SACRAMENTO"/ "SWEET HOME MALIBU" seems to be a magnet for these despicable gays. Talk about UGLY!!!!! This is a dimension of ugliness that is incredulous. These self-loathing gays would send the gay communitiy to the gas chambers, and sleep very well at night.

Homophobia is a disease, just like MAD COW DISEASE is a disease.

Ryan

Originally from Georgia, then to California, back to Alabama to take care of my brother before he passed. Now home in California. Health care was too costly in Alabama.
You called me a cow because my opinion wasn't what you wanted to hear.
I have been reading the gay blogs and what I read is ugly name calling and lots of hate.
I think that amount of hate is unhealthy just as I feel same sex marriage is unhealthy.
I am not repulsed by same sex relationships. But I do read depression, hate and anger. Just seems to me the whole thing is unhealthy all the way around. I also find those that persecute and bash same sex relationships to be unhealthy.

Wow. How self-loathing of you.

Dude, you need to get some happy in your life.

And you need to stop making fun of the way people look, one way or another, if you're going to comment on here.

Prejudice doesn't fly here. Criticize one's behavior or words, but not their person.

I'm tempted as it is to delete what you just posted. So full of the same kind of prejudice that Patty is showing.

I'm new to the gay blog scene, and what I've seen sure leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Oh how gays love to tear each other apart. Woof! Woof! Woof!

I've got to get ready for the Harvard Alumni dinner tonight. Shall I save a seat for you?????

Woof!Woof! Woof!

Last post.

Oh Happy Day!!!!!!!

Jeff,
I was not hateful in my post to you. If you do not want any comments other than those that agree with you then please state it on your blog and I will not comment again.

Ryan when I talked about health care cost I was referring to insurance premiums. Hospital stays are covered by my health insurance. I am sorry I wasn't more clear on what I was trying to say. I couldn't afford the health insurance premiums in Alabama. Medicare does not cover all the costs of health care, supplemental insurance is needed. Which I could not afford.
I am very fortunate that my niece is so good to me. I would have a very difficult time getting by if it weren't for her kindness.
I understand that my nephew has been wounded but that doesn't give him the right to wound those who love him. I have had my share of wounds just not the same type that you have experience, but wounds just the same.

Jeff I have read your blog and I do read hate coming from it.

You state that health care was too costly in Alabama. Now you're back living in California--a state known for very, very, very, very, very, very INEXPENSIVE health care costs. Ok!!!! I would suggest you don't get sick in California. Trust me on this one.

Patty, gays and lesbians face discrimination on a daily basis. We are often the targets of hate crimes. We're supposed to SHUT UP, but then pay our taxes like everyone else. I suppose if the government didn't want our money, like they don't want us in the military, we wouldn't be so vocal about discrimination.

HEY! NO PAY TAXES--I'LL SURE SHUT UP. But the government wants our hard-earned money, and we're denied many rights and privliges that are not denied to heterosexuals.

I'm not shutting up. I want my rights just like other people want their rights, too.

If it looks like I'm spewing a lot of hate--tooooooo bad.

Hate directed my way, will be met with resistance.

I WILL ROCK-THE-BOAT, until I'm viewed as an equal citizen in this nation.

Patty, I did *not* call you a cow.

Read what I wrote.

YOU, on the other hand, have decided that any primary relationship I will ever form is unhealthy and you're willing to explicitly legislate against it?

if you don't know any gay couples who are happy, then you don't know enough gay couples.

Isn't anecdotal evidence fun?

Ryan,
In California I have health insurance with Kaiser and they take my Medicare with no additional payment needed for full coverage. I also collect 200.00/month more in SS benefits.
Alabama doesn't have Kaiser or any plans such as what Kaiser provides. Supplemental insurance in Alabama is very costly. Housing in Alabama is cheaper than California. But my niece here in California lets me rent one of her rental houses for what she pays in property taxes on it. So my monthly rent is 103.33/month.
My nephew is gay. He has bumper stickers on his car saying how proud he is to be gay. I don't feel the need to have bumper stickers on my car saying how proud I am to be heterosexual. I love my nephew and when he has a partner I love him too. (I am still Aunt to many of his former partners) But my nephew as of today has failed to be faithful in any of his relationships, and he can't figure out why his relationships do not last. My nephew in some areas is brilliant, in other areas his brain seems to be the size of a pea. He is a pharmaceutical salesman and makes very good money. He is out going and very sociable at times, then the other times he is depressed, angry, and very hurtful. He is not healthy mentally. He is always suicidal after a relationship fails, yet his relationships fail because he can't keep his thing in his pants. I hear the same anger, bitterness, and hurtful words spewed on the gay blogs that I read.
I am sure there must be some healthy same sex relationships though I have yet to run across one. That is why I read gay blogs, looking to find a healthy same sex relationship. But all I read is anger, hate, and bitterness. Just like the man saying Arnold's kids are ugly. Why attack innocent children? For that matter why attack Arnold in such a hateful way? That is not going to help your cause or talk him out of the veto on the bill. If he read your blog I would think your words would most likely make him want to veto it in a hurry.
I also read the blog of the comedian Rosie and good grief the hate that spews from her posts. Now she has fame, money, and just about anything she wants. Yet she is so full of anger and hate. I just feel all that ugly hate comes from an unhealthy mind set created by same sex relationships.

I didn't say you were hateful, Patty.

But on the other hand, what would you call it when you say that you so disapprove of same-sex marriages that you would vote against other people having them? What would you call your willingness to judge all gay men based on a few stories?

I also said that I don't disagree that hate and bitterness come from me, but aimed at the words and behavior of those who seek to legislate against me and my kind and attempt to engineer society such that people like me remain second class.

If you have wounds, Patty, does that give you the right to wound those who mean you no harm? Is that it?

Ryan, call me when the shuttle lands, ok? and until then, I'd appreciate you staying away.

Whoever this Ryan is does not speak for me.

You think your nephew cheats because he's gay? You think straight men don't cheat all the time?

You don't have bumperstickers, perhaps, but you fly your pride in being straight all the time. If you are married, do you wear a wedding ring? Do you visit blogs and tell people how inferior gay relationships must be?

We have Pride rallies because the world conspires to Shame us. We have pride in ourselves because we have had to overcome people like you JUST to get back to neutral/zero!

You seem rather insensitive to hurting other people, or you're hiding what you believe is a damn good reason to bring hurt and shame to other people.

Have you read any of the stuff I've written about myself and about my view of the world? I am not a hateful or bitter man, except when it comes to small-minded people out there who can't stand to give up their petty senses of superiority and accept others as equal to themselves....and even then, the hatefulness and bitterness is a result of exhaustion: there are so many of you!

Whomever this Jeff is does not speak for me.

Whomever this Patty is does not speak for me.

I know one thing: "I am Ryan and I speak for myself." Jeff can speak for himself and, likewise, Patty can speak for herself. This is still America. At least I still think it's America. At least it's the America I know and envisison. It's plainly not the America George Bush envisions.

Gays do not have one voice. The Radical-Right does not have one voice. Franky, Log Republicans get me just a little hot under-the-collar. Likewise, the masculine-appearing ( "appearing" is the key word here as it's all superficial ) gay bears get me just a little hot under-the-collar. Drag queens are not my cup of tea either, but they have a right to sit at the table, too. The table should have a place for all of us. All of us!!!

Generally speaking, tolerance in America is bantered around a lot in talk, but it's mostly talk. The power brokers in America are: male, white, Protestant, and heterosexual. The generated-synergies are therefore one of: intolerance.

For those of us who are a little different from an early age, the slings and arrows thrown at us take a heavy toll. A heavy toll!!! I am wounded. I am upfront about it. I am in tune with what's happening in the vestiges of my inner soul. A lucky few of us may not be wounded. They may say they are not wounded, but I don't believe them. Naturally, some of us are more wounded than others.

Andrew Solomon, in the "Noonday Demon," mentions the disproportionate number of gays and lesbians with anxiety and depression. The statistics are staggering. The consequences of the depression, whether conscious or SUBCONSCIOUS, are higer rates of promiscuity, alcoholism, and suicide. Just look at the meth problem within the gay community today. It's very, very, very alarming. Of course, gays alone don't have a lock on the meth problem.

Gays and lesbians live in an "unfriendly" environment. Castro Street, Christopher street, and Ocean Drive may offer a little freedom, but the freedom may vanish rather quickly just a few short, short, short blocks away.

Patty, you're nephew is wounded. I am wounded. To be human is to be vunerable to the slings and arrows of life. I am NOT a super robot without feelings!!!! Your nephew is not a super robot without feelings. Does your heart not ache when you see the hurricane-refugees in New Orleans? If it does not, you are not human. Sadly, tooooooooo many people are not human. Some of us become hardened souls not moved by the human condition of vunerability and suffering.

One cannot seek love without loving yourself first--warts and all. Your nephew may not love himself, and he's seeking love externally when, in reality, love is internally-based.

Health-care premiums are one thing, but getting sick and flat-on-your back in the hospital are quite another. Hospital room rates in California are not Motel 6. Look for rates easily over $1000 dollars a day, and inching mabye toward $1300-$1600 in LA and SF. Certainly in Alabama, rates are in the $300 to $600 dollar a day range.

On the other hand, "Podunk Hospital" in Alabama may not be worth .50 cents a day. On the other hand, Cedars in LA. may not be worth $10,000 a day for that matter.

Just give me a handsome doctor, and I'll pay anything. I am sure I would have a pulse, even if I'm dead.

You are lucky your rent is reasonable. Nothing lasts forever, though. Life circumstances change rather quickly, sometimes overnight.

Here today, gone tomorrow!!!!!!

Ryan

Jeff,

Pride parades, at the surface level, exude-- pride. But when you get below the surface level, the pride evaporates rather quickly.

Floats, drags queens, banners, leather, convertibles, and shirtless buffed men are commensurate with pride parades. The bald, and the obese, ( except for lesbians ) are rather sparse at prideful events. At least-- mine. How many gay fatties are sitting on a Mercedes 600 SL convertible?

On Castro Street, I suppose it does require a 500 cyclinder car to move a 500 pound, shirtless, G-stringed, obese gay man.

Obese gay fatties really should be sitting on a Kia convertible--not a Mercedes or a Corvette. Kia's sure ain't very prideful. Mercedes, Corvettes, and BMWs rule. GAYS ARE HIGH CLASS!!!!!!! We may be gay, but we ain't trailer-trash--Kia-trash.

Granted, "Pride" is more than one parade, two parades, or three parades, but the spill-over effect is there, nonetheless.

In my pride paper, the list of gay psychotherapists is quite lengthy. Like---two full pages. Of course, none of the participants in the pride parades see psychotherapists. Abosultely not!!!

The list of massage therapists is quite lengthy, too. Oh, our aching muscles after walking miles, and miles, and miles. WE'RE ALL "PRIDED-OUT.

You may have your act-- "together," but I know tooooo many gay men who do not.

Our leader, George Bush, certainly doesn't have his act together. Obviously, years of alcohol abuse have crossed a few wires in his demented brain.

Sadly, he doesn't have a clue.

Ryan

"A fluke, a mistake, a momentary lapse of judgment by the voters of California taken in by the power of Celebrity."

Remember those kind of reviews Governor?

When you were elected, pundits on both the left and the right were full of snide biting little remarks on how you would be at best a one term novelty and at worst a one term embarrassment. Comedians snickered, columnists made sarcastic movie-actor turned politician predictions of failure and irrelevance.

My how times have changed. Governor, you have the chance here and now to make history. With a single stroke of your pen you can change your place in that history book from being a celebrity politician remembered along side Jesse Ventura to a statesman remembered with Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy and yes, Ronald Reagan.

When AB 849 comes to your desk you will have two choices Governor.

The first choice and perhaps the far easier one is to veto it. Yes you will anger thousands of LGBT Californians, and the far left will say you were a coward. Many in the Gay Community who voted for you (and there are many)clearly wont do so again should you seek a 2nd Term. But for the most part the Center/Left and the Center/Right will be silent, muttering things like "Well it just isn't the right time yet, society needs to progress more." The Far Right will cheer you and in doing so mark you as a ally of fundamentalist evangelicals, your name will be Linked with James Dobson, Pat Robertson and perhaps even the Pope. But it wouldn't be anything you would really be remembered for. Your problems with the Teachers and Nurses of CA would have far more ink in your chapter in the history books.

Not so with your second choice. To vote Yes. Great men are remembered as such for their decision to seize that one moment in history that sets them and their times apart. For Martin Luther it was October 1517,when he challenged Rome and the very idea that God was angry and vengeful. For Henry Ford it was October 1908 when the first Model T produced and changed forever the economic and cultural landscape of America. For John F. Kennedy it was October 1962 when he stood firm against missiles in Cuba and Soviet expansion in our own back yard. For you Governor, October 2005 could be your date to truly make history.

To vote Yes on AB 849 would place you in a very select group of men and women in History who acted for what was right, rather than what was expedient. And let's be honest about one thing. Gay Marriage threatens no one, and attacks nothing. How does granting the equal rights and protections PROMISED in our constitution too ALL our citizens "threaten" or "attack" anything or anyone? It doesn't you know that as well as I do. The real issue here is will California lead America into this new century or will we cower in fear of it?

The chance to make History is a scary thing. We can only speculate how those great men and women of the past grappled with the choices that are now in front of you Governor. Your life story is one of defying expectations and seizing the moment. Don't stop now when your chance to truly make history, to truly strike a blow against discrimination, against fear, against hate and FOR equality will soon be sitting there right on your desk.

Pick up your pen Governor. Vote Yes.

As an overview of what I have read I would like to post my opinions and insights on the matters mentioned. Regarding hate one way or the other; it accomplishes nothing. Strength is all that will conquer and achieve, hatred is a show of weakness. Regarding appearances, well "fatties" don't have the aesthetic structural appeal of the trim form. My partner is goodly overweight, so don't get me wrong. All people in order to have a healthy socity must, struggle against the hatred in us all. Regarding the seeming unhealth of same sex relationships: fiirst look at the divorce rate and the cause of all that divorce so as to give the issue a fair unbiased context. Also, it is possible that seeing as the occurence of homosexuality can be considered a sort of abberation, that it should not be unusual if there may be other abberations caused or influenced by the homosexuality. Further, it should not be too surprising if gays find it difficult to curb promiscuity, after all we can't get married. Some feel short-changed by this. Further, if someone can't control their promiscuity this does not mean it is because of homosexuality. Rather such problems are also very common in heterosexual circles as well. Therefore obviously homosexuality is not the problem, but rather something else. perhaps sex addiction.
